Lifting the Maid of the Mist

The Niagara Falls attraction the Maid of the Mist was welcomed to its new home on Thursday, October 31st 2013. The two tour boats, weighing approximately 125 tons each, needed to be lifted onto the new concrete slab that was built on the American side of the Niagara River for storage during the winter months.
Working as a team, HSI: Hanes Supply Inc. and ELT: Engineered Lifting Technologies, manufactured the rigging equipment needed to lift the Maid of the Mist out of the Niagara River.
HSI: Hanes Supply, Inc, manufactured 8 each TPXCCF10000 Twin-Path® Extra High Performance slings rated at 100,000 lb vertical, with patented Checkfast® Overload indicating technology. HSI is one of the largest Crosby distributors in the USA. HSI furnished 12 each Crosby FIT10408 S-253 6" 50 Ton Screw Pin Sling Saver Shackles.
Engineered Lifting Technologies designed and manufactured the custom Four Point Lifting Frame, rated at 155T. The unique design allows the four point lifter to be disassembled into 4 separate members. The ergonomic solution allows flexible storage and reassembly for the next lifts which will occur every spring and fall. The four point lifter was painted aqua blue to match the Liebherr Pedistal Crane.
